In "Madness and Folly," it first lists the three grades generally. The first is the middle grade; the second is the superior grade; the third is the inferior grade. "The *Daśādhyāya-vinaya*..." down to the three vinayas specifically indicate the middle grade. Below, pointing to the karmavācanā: the Vinaya prohibited it because the bhikṣu Nanāyu had a disordered mind, being mad and foolish. The motion says: "May the venerable saṃgha listen! This bhikṣu Nanāyu has a disordered mind, being mad and foolish, sometimes remembering the poṣadha, sometimes not remembering the poṣadha, sometimes coming, sometimes not coming. If the time has arrived for the saṃgha, may the saṃgha grant permission to perform for this bhikṣu the karmavācanā of a disordered mind, madness, and folly: whether he remembers or does not remember, whether he comes or does not come, the saṃgha performs the karmavācanā and recites the precepts. Such is the motion." (The karmavācanā is performed accordingly.)
