First, explaining the borderline offense (pārājika): It takes its name from an analogy, and the text fully explains it. Earlier, relying on the root Vinaya, he provisionally based it on the full ordination. Below, following the Sarvāstivāda Vinaya Vibhāṣā, extending to the preceding four precepts, all are called borderline offenses. However, among the lay precepts, the major and minor are universally prohibited; following the monastic chapters and aggregates, it is definitely determined by the great grave [offenses]. The reason why the full precepts must state 'relinquishing' is that if one commits a grave offense without relinquishing, it is called the twofold extinction; wishing to clarify that it forms an impediment, it is therefore explained in terms of relinquishing. For the latter three offenses, committing them immediately impedes the precepts, regardless of whether one relinquishes or does not relinquish.
