Under 'robes and bowl': In the Dharmaguptaka-vinaya: Because one without robes and bowl received full ordination, the monks told him to enter the village to beg for food; he said, 'I have no robes or bowl,' and because of this it was prohibited. Furthermore, there was someone who borrowed another's robes and bowl, and after receiving the precepts, the owner took them back; he was naked and ashamed, and therefore it was prohibited that one must not do so. If one wishes to give robes, one should cause them to be given as a gift; if not given, one should give their price. (This is based on permanent sale before it is accomplished; nowadays there are temporary rentals, which are still identical to borrowing.) Below, it cites the Mahīśāsaka-vinaya to corroborate the case of borrowing: Since it causes the owner to relinquish them so that they become one's own property, this is the same as the Dharmaguptaka's 'one should cause them to be given as a gift'.
