次引證中，《律》文，初以年簡能。謂下，列示所能。即十種苦事。寒下六字為六，蚊虻毒蟲為七，惡言苦事為八，持戒為九，一食為十。《僧祇》中。年雖應法，不堪亦簡。故知出家專存修業，豈不思之。

In the next citation of evidence: In the Vinaya text, first one's competence is vetted by age. From 'meaning' downwards, it lists and shows the competencies. That is, the ten kinds of hardships. The six characters from 'cold' downwards make six; mosquitoes, gnats, and poisonous insects make seven; harsh words and distressing matters make eight; keeping precepts makes nine; one meal [a day] makes ten. In the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya: Even if of legal age, those unable to bear [these] are also excluded. Thus we know that going forth solely resides in cultivating the practice; how could one not reflect on this?
