Next, explaining specific practices: in announcing affairs, in the Dharmaguptaka-vinaya, it first explains the disciple announcing to the master. 'Affairs' covers everything. From 'if...' downward, it explains that the master should assess whether it is permissible. This temporarily refers to going outside. The 'eight affairs' are the three items combined with one another to make eight: 1. the companion is appropriate, but the place and affair are not; 2. the place is appropriate, but the companion and affair are not; 3. the affair is appropriate, but the companion and place are not (these three clauses have one appropriate and two inappropriate); 4. the companion and place are appropriate, but the affair is not; 5. the companion and affair are appropriate, but the place is not; 6. the affair and place are appropriate, but the companion is not (these three clauses have two appropriate and one inappropriate); 7. all three types are appropriate; 8. all three types are inappropriate. 'The three types interlocked' generally refers to the eight clauses. From 'only...' downward, it sifts out the above seven clauses, in all of which he is not permitted to go, and selects solely the single clause where all are appropriate to allow him to go.
