1.918

《僧祇》。五法，並制弟子。此彰師德，歸攝人心，能感弟子成此五者，方可依止，即屬簡德。（古云此五約師非也。）

The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya: The five dharmas are all prescribed for the disciple. This makes manifest the teacher's virtues in inspiring trust and gathering people's minds; only when one can inspire the disciple to accomplish these five may one be taken as a dependence, which pertains to selecting virtues. (The ancient view that these five relate to the teacher is incorrect.)
