Under taking leave and departing, there are two parts. First, explaining rebuke and seeking forgiveness, which again has two parts. First, explaining the method of seeking someone to mediate. From "Should know" downward, having the master observe. From "The Vinaya" downward, second, the method of seeking forgiveness in person; the former explains the disciple's diligence and sincerity. From "If the lowest" downward, regulating that the master must accept it. Next, from "If he knows" downward, explaining knowing the fault and leaving; first, permitting another to entice him away. The Vinaya allows this if it can definitely increase the fruits of the śramaṇa; hence we know that the one who can entice must be a good master. From "If a disciple" downward, second, reporting oneself and departing. "Five kinds" refers to the five clauses of the reporting method below. The original intention of relying on a master is to examine faults and urge diligence. If he is ignorant of all five, where is the master's function? Departing from the wrong and turning toward the Path is indeed appropriate.
