Under 'inability', in the first section, the first two lines indicate the difficulty. Among the previous four resolutions, the texts involve selection and rejection, and the meanings are judged by intellect; being of meager learning and shallow knowledge, it is not within one's reach; confronting those ancient explanations, it therefore says 'discarding and establishing'. The statement below, 'deciding right from wrong', has the same meaning. From the next two lines down, he distinguishes the incorrect and reveals the correct. The marks of the Vinaya are spoken of generally, while allowances and prohibitions are spoken of specifically; the two dharmas of allowance and prohibition are particularly difficult in the Vinaya, hence they are specially highlighted. The two lines below 'if not' reveal the fault. 'If it were not so' is the opposite of the above 'deeply understanding', etc. 'Burden' refers to doubts and stagnations, or it can be explained in terms of offenses; both explanations are admissible. 'Other spheres' refers to the preceding matters; because one does not understand the purport of the teaching, all are applied erroneously; since practice does not become maintenance, it says 'without benefit'. This is explained in terms of self-cultivation. Or 'other spheres' may refer to other people; expounding to transform others is not the correct teaching at all, hence it is 'without benefit'.
