敘意中，初顯教益，上二句標歎。下二句釋成，上句約時顯功。正像語略，理須兼末；即下云：云何得知佛法久住等。下句約法明用。以同遵故，清淨和合，餘法可行，下云攝僧根本之教是也。

In recounting the intent, first the benefit of the teaching is shown; the upper two lines specify and praise it. The lower two lines explain and complete it; the upper line clarifies its efficacy in terms of time. The words 'True and Semblance [Dharma]' are brief; in principle they must include the Final [Dharma] as well; this is what is said below: 'How is it known that the Buddha's Dharma will abide long?', and so forth. The lower line clarifies its function in terms of Dharma. Because of common compliance, there is purity and harmony, and the remaining dharmas can be practiced; this is what is called below 'the fundamental teaching for gathering the saṃgha'.
