開章中。科云先明戒護者，欲明篇聚嚴猛，犯報深酷；實由所受功深，致使有違罰重；特須先示，方顯後文。宗即是本。

In 'Opening the Chapter'. The outline says, 'First clarifying the precept-guard', because it intends to clarify that the sections and clusters are severe and fierce, and the retribution for violations is profound and cruel; it truly arises because the efficacy of what was received is deep, bringing about heavy punishments when there is a violation. It must especially be shown first so as to reveal the subsequent text. 'Substance' is the root.
