Question: Do persons in sleep or absorption constitute a separate assembly? Answer: They also should not constitute one. In the treatise, it further lists distracted minds, minds damaged by illness, the two orders of bhikṣuṇīs, novice monks, those outside the boundary, and those in absorption; none incur an offense. Now, it briefly brings up the insane mind to subsume discrepancy of conditions (sleep, absorption, etc.); final expulsion can include impurity of substance (the thirteen impediments, the three suspensions, etc.); and a different boundary subsumes deviation of marks (the boundary platform, open ground, beyond the reach of an outstretched hand, etc.).
