The next subsection: first, the Vinaya and treatises are cited. Permitting taking old food, and also permitting taking it oneself, must be due to famine conditions. Or even in times of plenty, when begging yields nothing and time presses with no one around, both are therefore permitted. The pronunciation of 扟 is the fanqie of shi and lin; it means pushing away or removing. In the Five Hundred Questions, first it indicates that the condition is the same as above. Below, from "That which", it reveals the intent of the exception; first, it clarifies permitting food. Below, from "Furthermore", it explains taking it oneself. Uttarakuru is translated here as "superior", because it surpasses the other three continents. That is because the people there have no notion of "mine" toward material things.
