Among the conditions: for the second, in the Daśādhyāya-vinaya "severing sexual activity" means the husband and wife cultivate celibacy, and receiving the upavāsa means severing proper sexual activity through the eight precepts. In the third, in the Mahīśāsaka-vinaya "obstructing business" means preventing that husband and wife from following their desires. In the Daśādhyāya-vinaya, "multiple persons" is identical to a fourth person. In the fourth, if there is another person besides the three persons, it is not an offense; hence it says "a fourth." The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya excludes those who are not witnesses; in that vinaya, having a bhikṣu companion is no offense, but even if there are many white-clothed laypeople, it is still an offense. In the Sarvāstivāda Vinaya Vibhāṣā, if the two masters, parents, or venerated persons are seated, it is not an offense. The Dharmaguptaka's exceptions extend to both monastic and secular, unlike the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya.
