In the next section, it first cites the Vinaya. The perception of the object is the same as the precept against unchastity. In the notes, the first sentence shows the Vinaya text, and the next sentence clarifies the present explanation. This means that previously there was the preparatory stage of wishing to drink, and when it came to drinking later, thoughts or doubts arose that it was not liquor; the subsequent mind has no violation, but completes the prior preparatory stage, so a grave [offense] must be determined. If previously there was no intention and one was confused or forgot, an exception must be granted. The Commentary says: "The various masters determine the prohibition based on mind following object; my view is different. The holy prohibition has a reason, though the text is slightly incomplete. How could a wise person, having never smelled it, mistakenly drink it when needing syrup, and be assigned a pāyattika?" Daśādhyāya-vinaya: It considers not looking, which is the same as determining by the object now. Looking means lack of intention, which can prove that a confused mind has no preparatory stage.
