反顯中，初引論示。下引經證。亦《遺教》文，如〈標宗〉委釋。此明無戒，具諸過失；本基之義，於此彌彰。

In demonstrating by the negative, it first cites the treatise to show it. Below, it cites a sūtra to verify it. This is also a passage from the *Bequeathed Teachings*, as explained in detail in "Marking the Principle." This clarifies that being without the precepts entails all kinds of faults; the meaning of the root and foundation is made even clearer here.
