In the *Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya*, there are two: first, explaining coarse and fine. The two kinds of Sanskrit terms refer to fine silk and wool; below it mentions 'other garments,' which are the coarse ones. However, regarding the fine garments above, if they are the three robes, they must first be dyed throughout; if they are other clothing items, they only need to be spotted or cut. From 'Blue' onward, it next distinguishes the three colors used for spotting. There are four kinds of blue: the first is copper-green (verdigris), which is a proper color; the three below are all illicit colors. Mineral blue is blue produced from stone, which can be ground to obtain it. *Kongqing* (azurite) is also produced in stone and can be used as medicine. Black is called 'making mud,' which means placing mud in a vessel above and dyeing it black for use. Bark indicates the robe method; below it says that the *Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya* was translated in the Wu region, where bark was not seen, so it was considered fruit colors and so forth.
