In the fifth, the robe of the *Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya* clarifies the size of the spot. *Wan* (pea) is pronounced *wu* + *wan*; the ancient record says it resembles today's mung bean. From 'Must not' onward, it clarifies how many are applied. From 'If washed' onward, it explains that staining constitutes purification. From 'If new' onward, it clarifies that doing so wherever is unhindered. 'All garments' refers to the remaining garments. 'New fine patch' refers to mending patches. From 'If the community' onward, it clarifies that both general and individual are admissible. The Vinaya's 'No offense' refers to obtaining white robes, dyeing them in three colors, and for the remaining blankets up to towels and so forth, keeping them after they have been purified.
