斥非中，初科。笞音癡，小杖也。一化者，諸教不開，即知佛世所不行也。前卷即〈師資篇〉。

In the rebuke of errors, the first section: chi (笞), pronounced chī, is a small rod. "Throughout a whole teaching career" means that none of the teachings allow an exception for it, from which we know it was not practiced in the Buddha's era. "The preceding fascicle" refers to the "Chapter on Master and Disciple."
