In the next section, the Mahāsaṃnipāta Sūtra: it is based on being able to preach the Dharma to transform the world with benefit; even if one has broken precepts or is devoid of precepts, the sinful karma is still like this; how much more so for others who maintain the precepts—that goes without saying. Among all sins, the five deadly offenses are the gravest; among the five deadly offenses, shedding blood is the gravest still. Shedding the blood of one Buddha incurs one kalpa in Avīci; how much more so for ten thousand kotīs! Because the sin is extremely grave, it is used as a comparison. The Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa first relates that the institution of precepts accords with worldly marks. Promulgating precepts belongs to the prohibitive teaching; retribution in future lives belongs to the path of karma. As shown below by raising marks: wishing to manifest the heavy karma of flogging, it causes faithful believers to heed the warning. "Praising a woman" refers to coarse language.
