In explaining the fifth, the Daśādhyāya-vinaya first clarifies the method of confession. Below, 'eight finger-breadths...', it clarifies the measurement. The commentary note prevents confusion and can be understood. Below, 'the [n]th...', it comprehensively clarifies the measure of height. 'The third part' is the uppermost eight inches. As for 'the four equal parts', two parts make the legs, one part makes the supports, and one part is on the platform; it says 'the third' because it does not count the supports. Below, 'furthermore...', it clarifies the measure of width: first, it clarifies long beds and reclining beds. 'Four years junior' means, for instance, if one has six rains retreats, one may sit with someone of ten rains; if one has one rains retreat, one sits with someone of five rains. If one is five years junior, one is not permitted to sit together, because they are in the rank of an ācārya. According to the root prohibition of the Vinaya, one must be three years junior to oneself; because the bed is large, it allows being four years junior, hence it says 'it may not be less'. Second, it clarifies sitting beds. Third, it clarifies the number of support woods. These can be understood.
