Regarding the sequence: First, it investigates. If based on the worldly convention of saying "Sūtra, Vinaya, Abhidharma," this follows verbal convenience; but if paired with the three trainings, the Vinaya must come first, hence this intent is stated. "Because..." below explains. Because concentration and wisdom are subtle and hidden, evil and correct are hard to distinguish; to winnow out confusion, one must use the Vinaya dharma; since its use comes first, its meaning must be marked first. The internal dharma refers to the eightfold noble path. Outer worldlings confusedly blending in refers to those who steal the form [of a monastic]. Those expelled by the dharma are like what is described in the Vinaya: during a time of famine, an outsider stole the form and followed behind the saṃgha; the saṃgha questioned him on the time of ordination, the upādhyāya, the ācārya, and so on; as he knew none of them, he immediately confessed. "Marvellous" means essential. "Therefore..." below concludes and indicates. "Initial" means beginning. "The rest..." below indicates brevity. Either based on the sequence of the three trainings, or because it is the life-span of the Buddhadharma, it fittingly resides first; since this is commonly heard, it is not explained here. (Those pointing to the precepts and *mokṣa*, or to the *Precept Commentary*, are all incorrect.)
