彰述作中，初科，初四句敘學淺。上二句，約創學未久；下二句，約泛學無功。教網，通指三藏；詮相非一，如網目焉。諳，悉也。詎，豈也，始末不能盡究也。若下，二句，示無知。

In the section clarifying the composition, in the first section, the first four lines recount shallowness in learning. The first two lines concern having begun studying not long ago; the latter two lines concern studying broadly without achievement. The "net of the teaching" generally refers to the Tripiṭaka; its explained marks are not one, like the meshes of a net. 諳 (an) means to know fully. 詎 (ju) means how could, meaning that from beginning to end one cannot exhaustively investigate it. The two lines beginning with "if" show lack of knowledge.
