次科，初通指一鈔，一往以判。上下兩卷為作持，中卷為止持。就下，別指前篇，發起於後。今下，正敘此篇，以示文意。對翻隨相，三種不同；約義，翻前約事也；總論，翻前別相也。綱要，翻前網目也。舉下，明以別顯總，使前後相照。如下諸門，舉戒配釋者是。

In the next section, the beginning generally refers to the whole Manual, judging it provisionally: the upper and lower fascicles are maintenance through action, and the middle fascicle is maintenance through cessation. The line beginning with "with regard to" specifically points to the preceding chapter, generating what follows. The line beginning with "now" properly recounts this chapter to show the meaning of the text. Countering and reversing the concomitant marks, there are three differences: treating principles reverses the preceding treatment of facts; general discussion reverses the preceding specific marks; essential outline reverses the preceding meshes of the net. The line beginning with "adducing" explains using the specific to reveal the general, making the preceding and succeeding illuminate each other. As in the various gates below, adducing precepts to match and explain is just this.
