顯意中。此論持犯，但望起心，與體違順不同；次科對事造作。應知二持心約，即約通持；望本受體，塵沙事法，發無邊善。兩犯亦爾。若論作犯，對緣正作，自隨前犯；此中止是泛爾起心，可望本受，通犯吉罪。止犯頓漸，如下別解。

In revealing the meaning: discussing maintenance and violation here only considers the arising of the mind, and whether it accords with or opposes the essence differently; the next section addresses engaging in action toward matters. One should know that when the mind of the two maintenances is considered, it refers to general maintenance: in view of the original reception-essence and the sand-like matters and phenomena, it brings forth boundless goodness. The two violations are also like this. If one discusses violation by action, directly acting when facing conditions naturally follows the preceding offense; here it is merely the casual arising of a mind, which in view of the original reception, universally incurs duṣkṛta offenses. Sudden and gradual for violation by cessation are explained separately below.
