無知中，初標。謂下，釋。不學約心，無知隨事。心有總別，故通漸頓；事不竝修，故唯局漸。又不學罪，凡經兩結；若初起心，漸頓隨犯，如此所明；至後無知，隨事復結，如下句法。

Under ignorance, first the heading. From 'meaning' below, the explanation. Failing to learn concerns the mind; ignorance follows matters. Because the mind has comprehensive and particular [modes], it penetrates both gradual and sudden; because matters cannot be cultivated simultaneously, it is strictly confined to gradual. Furthermore, the offense of failing to learn is imputed twice in all: when the mind first arises, gradual or sudden offense follows, as explained here; when reaching the subsequent ignorance, it is imputed again according to matters, as in the formulation of the lines below.
