In citing evidence: In the Sarvāstivāda Vinaya Vibhāṣā, the first two lines clarify the induction and arising from causes. From "At the beginning..." downward, clarifying the limits of achievement. In the interlinear note, the name is indicated: the first line reconciles them as identical, while the lower line explains the meaning. The Karma Commentary states: "This clarifies that once the karmic essence arises, it continuously manifests without relying on conditions to operate; without depending on instruction to have accomplished efficacy, the essence spontaneously can requite future lives; hence it is called 'non-instruction' (avijñapti). Most sutras and treatises nowadays say 'non-action'; the principle and case are the same." (Following this, the word "other" in the note points to the karmic essence and does not pertain to a person.) The Abhidharmakośa's terming it avijñapti also accords with this explanation.
