In emptiness of marks, there are also three parts. The indication of the object is the same as before. In the contemplating [wisdom]: regarding 'emptiness of marks,' one thoroughly understands that phenomena have no marks, being like illusions and transformations; the deluded take them as true, just like flowers in the sky which those with diseased eyes take as real; hence it says 'merely false seeing of the mind.' In determining the stage: 'lesser bodhisattvas' refers to those who, although having generated the great aspiration, have not yet plumbed the root of the mind; therefore, this contemplation is devised to empty all sensory realms, just as is addressed to initial minds in the various Prajñāpāramitā texts. Regarding 'illumination and function': the two vehicles abide in quiescence, and therefore merely illuminate the mind; bodhisattvas engage in transactional matters, and therefore it is called illumination and function. If correlated with the three schools, it corresponds to the Four-Part [Vinaya]; identically contemplating the principle of emptiness, they are called 'lesser'; aspiring to and longing for the Buddha Vehicle, they are called 'bodhisattvas'—calling each other 'children of the Buddha' is a clear example of this.
