In the next section, "General Division": in the first passage, among the three positions: the first is the root, and the latter are derivative; the middle one is derivative relative to the prior, and root relative to the latter, so it兼 holds both names. Speaking of "three offenses": this means that after committing the root offense, the very first concealment, and wearing or using the robe due for relinquishment, and remaining silent during the saṅgha's poṣadha so as to falsely speak—each incurs one duṣkṛta offense. The subsequent derivative six grades: namely, under each of the three duṣkṛtas, there are the two offenses of first-night and second-night concealment, making six offenses altogether. Combined with the three offenses above, they form nine grades. If based on the karmavācanā, only eight grades are maintained; omitting the one duṣkṛta of root concealment, it directly establishes two derivative grades upon the root offense. In terms of examining the principle, the Commentary is the definitive teaching. From "All" onward, it concludes and indicates: because people in the world mostly recite formulas without asking whether [the offenses] exist or not, this is why it is entrusted here. "Repeated words" refers to the above three clauses like "all based on", etc. To make it easy to understand, it is briefly diagrammed.
