In [the section on] actual repentance, the physical deportment is first clarified. From "in speech..." onward is the procedure. In accordance with the commentary, the text is divided into eight parts. First, "May the Venerable One consider," which addresses and bids him focus his thoughts. Second, "I, so-and-so," which states one's own name. Third, from "intentionally stored..." onward, which lays out the varieties of marks and specifies the amount of offenses. Fourth, "now confessing before [you]," which expresses the absence of concealment, because it speaks of the root of the offense; this single phrase is the root of repentance. Fifth, "repenting brings peace and joy," which remotely obtains the fruits of meditation and adapts to both mind and body, hence it speaks of two. (Bodily ease and mental joy constitute the two.) Sixth, from "not repenting..." onward, which clarifies being entangled in the three destinies by evil karma; since the body is already uneasy, how could the mind harbor joy? Seventh, from "may the Venerable One..." onward, which requests witnessing. Eighth, "with the precept-body intact," since the prior violation was like defilement, repenting now accords with the original state, hence it is so stated. "Pure poṣadha" means that one's own practice is internally clean, and seeing and hearing are externally pure; having repented the root violation, it should effect the Saṅgha's karma, thus attaining harmony both within and without. (Purity of essence is internal harmony, and responding to the Saṅgha is external harmony.) The reason it is spoken three times is to express earnestness regarding the gravity of the matter. (Because these spoken words are frequently seen, they are therefore recorded.) The note in the phrasing stating "without wearing or using, etc." means that [the items] are completely worn out, spoken based on there being [some]; both the prior request for repentance and the repentance master's declaration cite it. If there indeed are none, they must regularly be removed, hence it says, "from the above, they are not needed at all, etc."
