次科，初句示前法。言文無有者，顯是義立。今下，斥濫。古本羯磨墮吉同法，意謂提舍在上，詞句尚已少於逸提，豈得吉羅反同墮法，故云今約等。（有云已字合作以者，非也。）不下，遮妨。彼宗墮吉合一儀法；宗計各異，不可輒用。

In the second section, the first line indicates the preceding ritual. Stating that the text lacks it clarifies that it was established on the basis of principle. From "Now" onward criticizes confusion. In the ancient karmavācanā texts, pāyattika and duṣkṛta shared the same ritual, the idea being that pratideśanīya is positioned above them, yet its phrases are already fewer than those for pāyattika; how could duṣkṛta instead be identical with the pāyattika ritual? Hence it says "now by summarizing," and so forth. (Some say that the character "already" [已] should be "by means of" [以]; this is incorrect.) From "Not" onward forestalls objections. That school combines pāyattika and duṣkṛta into a single ceremonial procedure; the tenets of the schools are distinct and must not be used arbitrarily.
