Among the four differences: first, reception merely generates a mind, so it can be generated comprehensively; subsequent [practice] is engagement in cultivation, so it can only be generated distinctly. In the second: saying that the subsequent unmanifest "is absent when the matter ceases" does not mean there is no unmanifest at all; it is merely that because the subsequent precept prevents wrongdoing alongside manifest action, when manifest action ceases while the goodness remains, it lacks the capacity to prevent wrongdoing and is not named a subsequent precept; hence it says it is absent. The earlier citation of the Commentary stated that "this goodness constantly remains"; the text is clear proof. In the third: saying "the two are absent" refers to the unwholesome and the indeterminate.
