第三門中。本說所緣，而分四科者。心隨境起，故先明心；心境相應，即發受體，故三明戒；戒必有用，故後明防；四義相綰，不可孤立故。初科，先明前略。但下，顯今廣，上二句示意。下二句顯益。上句開解，下句次見行。

In the third section: originally the object of cognitive conditioning was discussed, yet it is divided into four subheadings because the mind arises following the objective realm, and so the mind is explained first; when mind and realm correspond, they generate the reception-essence, and so precepts are explained third; precepts must have an application, and so prevention is explained last; the four meanings are interconnected and cannot stand in isolation. In the first subheading, it first explains the brevity of the earlier [account]. Below "Merely," it shows the comprehensiveness of the present [account], the upper two lines indicating the intent. The lower two lines show the benefit: the upper line opens understanding, and the lower line next presents practice.
