The former discusses conditions in terms of approaching the object; because there is originally intention, he clarifies the violation regarding the body. The latter analyzes conditions in terms of union with the object; since bodily intercourse is permitted, he clarifies the violation regarding the mind. In the first condition, he first shows the mark of violation, and next formally lists the conditions. 'Wrapping and separating' means using an object to wrap the organ in order to separate it; in the Vinaya text, all four alternatives constitute a violation: 1. with separation and with separation (both sides have it); 2. with separation and without separation (this side has it, that side does not); 3. without separation and with separation (this side does not, that side has it); 4. without separation and without separation (neither side has it). The Samantapāsādikā states: 'In the three paths of a woman, using either tree leaves, or clothing, or dressed leather, etc., one uses whatever object one obtains to separate them.' In the second condition, the note says 'and so on', which means among non-violations, all instances of lacking sexual intent, dementia, mental derangement, and so forth.
