In recounting the intention, first it shows that the marks are difficult to guard against. The upper phrase generally indicates the natural precept; the next phrase is restricted to the four pārājikas; the lower phrase uniquely shows the present precept on stealing. "Encompassing the light and grave" is because it extends across pārājika, saṃghāvaśeṣa, sthūlātyaya, and pāyattika. From "Therefore..." onward, the second relies on various texts to reveal the difficulty; the former shows vinayas and treatises: the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya explains stealing across five fascicles, the Daśādhyāya-vinaya four fascicles, and the Samantapāsādikā three fascicles. From "There is..." onward, next it refers to a separate manual, not knowing in detail who wrote it. From "Finally..." onward, the third gives rise to what is described below: the upper phrase clarifies investigating the preceding various texts, and the lower phrase indicates the subsequent section.
