In citing proof, first it adduces an example as proof, whose text is as cited below. Next it cites the text as proof. Saying "taking without asking" is the mark of stealing. "Knowing" means knowing the Dharma and intentionally transgressing; "not knowing" refers to being ignorant of the teaching and confusedly violating it. (Ancient teachers said: "The Mahāyāna determines it in terms of the object"; this is incorrect; this is merely of the kind of the pārājika of foolishness.) Saying "incurring a sthūlātyaya" directly concludes it with respect to the Buddha; even if there is an administrator, the compiler of the sūtra does not discuss it; however, although the name of the offense is light, based on karma it is grave.
