Under citing teachings: the first heading cites the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya. Surplus food is that which is not one's own share. The Samantapāsādikā: the five thieves all refer to secretly taking the Dharma to seek gain; it says: "Not practicing the celibate life, claiming oneself to practice the celibate life, and receiving offerings is called the first great thief; an evil bhikṣu stealing a good bhikṣu's Dharma to seek fame and gain is called the second great thief; slandering the worthy and noble and secretly stealing the noble Dharma is called the third great thief; taking the Sangha's heavy property to send to laypeople, falsely winning their favor, is the fourth great thief; the fifth is as cited in the Transactions Manual." The former section commits a sthūlātyaya, and the note says "jointly stealing" because the text merely says "taking it for one's own use together"; the latter section commits a heavy offense, and the note says "there is an owner" because the text indicates a mind of theft. The Mātṛkā-śāstra is the same, hence it is not cited.
