The next section is divided into two. First, it clarifies separate usage. The separate usages of the two ranks are evident in the text. Bad precepts and virtuous ones must be distinguished according to whether the four pārājikas are maintained or broken. Proper time and improper time are discussed based on before and after midday. Improper usage is the administrator's fault. From "The two kinds..." downward, next, it indicates mutual usage. "According to the above" refers to interchanging within the proper category; however, the previous text only permitted interchanging four-directions property into ten-directions property, such as reducing orchards or selling rooms to make food; if discussing ten-directions property, since the property is not retained for long, there is no principle of interchanging it into four-directions property. If discussing interchange within each of the two ranks: such as selling rooms to repair rooms, or taking heavy property to give to another monastery, this is the four-directions interchanging within itself. Also, as in the Dharmaguptaka-vinaya, "legal transactions are distinct while food is shared," which is the ten-directions interchanging within itself. However, all three interchanges above must be permitted when harmonizing with the Saṃgha and barred when not, hence it says "whether permissible or not."
