In the second, directly clarifying [the matter], the Daśādhyāya-vinaya has two sections. First, it clarifies entrusting for safekeeping; 'if borrowing,' and so forth, secondly clarifies borrowing. In the first part, it first clarifies a bhikṣu accepting an object entrusted by another; one then examines the goodness or malice of one's own mind to determine whether to compensate or not. The character 'urge' (cu) is written as 'cast' (tou) in the Vinaya text, which is an error in transcription. Next, it clarifies a bhikṣu entrusting an object to a layperson; one then examines the other's prudence or negligence to determine whether to demand it back or not. 'If entrusting,' and so forth, indicates the examples. The first clause is a householder receiving an object entrusted by a bhikṣu, which is analogous to the former section on compensating or not. The next clause is a householder entrusting an object to a bhikṣu, which is analogous to the latter section on demanding it back or not. The two clauses are identical to the preceding, hence it indicates 'as above'. In borrowing: since one borrows another's property, if there is damage one must compensate; fearing this might be confused with entrusting for safekeeping, it is specifically marked and distinguished.
