The fourth [saṃghāvaśeṣa]. (Udāyin, having heard that the Buddha established the first three precepts, then led a woman into his room, praised his body, and solicited offerings; hence it was established.) In the title, the object and the fault must be distinguished one by one. "Soliciting offerings" means enticing and flirting with the woman before him, making her offer sexual lust. The Commentary asks: since one has cultivated the brahmacarya (repeating the root precept text), logically there is no misconduct; why solicit offerings of sexual lust? The answer: if one actually engaged in sexual lust, the solicitation would be a sthūlātyaya, the preparatory stage of the great lust; now he fundamentally does not engage in it, but verbally speaks of its marks, falsely opening the gate of lust, aiming to obtain pleasure.
