In "Non-offenses": first, seven matters are individually raised. They are all differentiated by the word "if." The first six all depend on preaching the Dharma or receiving sutras, mentioning it incidentally, so an exception is granted and there is no offense. First, in preaching the Dharma, the "nine sores" are two each for eyes, ears, and nostrils, plus the mouth and the two excretory paths. Broken flesh is like a sore, and apertures are holes; externally admitting objects to enter and internally emitting discharges, hence many names are listed. In the fourth, the bhikṣu and the woman receive it together, which means in unison. In the sixth, it is merely chanting together, not receiving it from another person, which differs from the above. From "only if there is no..." downward, these words encompass [all of them] generally, not merely the preceding matters.
