簡辨中，初科，前引二文定量。若下，次辨犯相，初明應量。下引《多論》，明不應量。昔人據律，不應非犯；今據聖論，罪分提吉，犯懺不殊。

In differentiating and discerning, the first section: It first cites two passages to determine the measure. From 'if' downwards, it next discerns the marks of the offense: first it clarifies what conforms to the measure. Below it cites the Sarvāstivāda Vinaya Vibhāṣā to clarify what does not conform to the measure. In the past, people relied on the vinaya [to say that] what does not conform is not an offense; now relying on the holy treatise, the offenses are divided into pāyattika and duṣkṛta, while the offense and repentance are not different.
