In the fourth, two conditions are shown together. In the texts of the Daśādhyāya[-vinaya] and Mahāsāṃghika[-vinaya], the first explains the appropriate measure. This means the offending measure of this precept is not fixed to the three robes. Four cubits is calculated as seven feet and two inches. The passage beginning "If..." explains [taking it] for oneself. The text lists four marks, all of which are improper solicitations. The passage beginning "Except..." explains the exception for begging. Headgear was traditionally said to be caps, ribbons, cloths, kerchiefs, and the like. One strip in the hem refers to the patched borders of the three robes. The passage beginning "If..." explains begging for something small and getting something large. What is allowed and prohibited can be seen.
