In pointing out the broad treatment: 'establishing meaning' refers to theoretical classifications, distinguishing the marks of whether the formal procedure is permissible or not, which are most broadly treated in the chapter 'Four Medicines' and the *Precept Commentary*. Now, explaining this precept, the names and essences are briefly indicated so that the marks of offense may be known. 'Seven days' refers to the capacity and the Dharma procedure, exhausting their bounds, taking its name from the day limit. As for its medicinal substance, our school's five medicines are ghee, oil, butter, honey, and rock sugar; the *Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya* permits animal fat; all are seven-day substances and constitute the marks of the offense here.
