In citing the exhortation, the *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa*: its ninety-second fascicle says: "All bodhisattva paths purify these three karmas; first purifying body, speech, and mind, and afterwards to purify the Buddha-land; if one's own self is pure, one also purifies others. Why is this? Not only does one person take birth in the land; all jointly create the causes and conditions." (Taking birth in the same place is induced by shared karma; this explains that if a bodhisattva wishes to take a pure land, he must transform others to make their three karmas pure, so that they may jointly resonate.) Here citing the latter two lines considers that the retribution land on which one person's birth relies is entirely induced by the shared karma of many people; here we merely take the meaning, without needing to adhere rigidly to the text. "Namely..." is the treatise's own explanation. Internal phenomena are karma, namely good and unwholesome; external phenomena are retribution, namely the dependent vessel world; retribution is induced by karma, and thus it says "gives". Under "like evil...", it first shows the causes and conditions of the three evils to pair with the three retributions; it merely takes speech and mind, briefly omitting body; causes and effects correspond to each other, which can be understood by examining the text. Under "not doing...", it next explains the three virtues; reversing the above three retributions, it thus says "level and upright". Below, Maitreya is adduced as proof; that Buddha will appear in the world in the future when human lifespan is eighty thousand years. Citing this text is intended to manifest that the fault of foul mouth is grave, inducing an impure retribution, to make one exert oneself.
