In the various texts: the Satyasiddhi-śāstra's "true speech" refers to three sequential marks, all of which are faulty: "unseasonable" means speech that is inappropriate, which is termed unbeneficial; "debilitating vexation" means causing another unhappiness; "groundless" means following one's own whims. From "Namely..." downward, it points to the vinaya: the precepts against preaching Dharma to the śaikṣas and so on are all inappropriate. From "In the Samantapāsādikā..." downward, this grants an exception for not speaking when one should speak. From "In the vinaya..." downward, this discusses it with respect to individual persons.
