In the third, in the *Daśādhyāya-vinaya*, as for the *kusūlaka*, the *Scriptural Sounds and Meanings* says: 'This is translated as "granary", establishing the name in imitation of the garment's shape' (meaning like a cylindrical enclosure). If one follows the note, it is simply sewn completely around without two ends, and is called a *kusūlaka*. In the *Mahīśāsaka-vinaya*, the laity criticized it; thus we know the *kusūlaka* was originally the same as secular dress, which is why an expedient exception was granted. As for the poncho garment (*guantouyi*), the ancients said people of the Southern Seas slit an opening in the shirt to wear it; putting the head through first, and then the two sleeves, it was called a 'poncho'. The note saying it resembles a woman's skirt refers to the fact that women's skirts nowadays are also not sewn into a tube.
