In citing the text, the first section: the former part clarifies the need for a ritual method. Ancients claimed that no karmavācanā was needed, which the Commentary refutes. "Departing before it is divided" refers to someone who observed the rains retreat together leaving the boundary first. The statement that the share is accomplished means that although the body has left the boundary, it does not obstruct carrying out the ritual method. "Moreover below" next explains mental reception: one should say, "This is my property," three times. "If timely below" next clarifies the determination of the time. In the Vinaya, because permanent residents did not divide it during the time, intending that the guests would leave so there would be few people and many items, the Buddha penalized them: because there were many people during the non-timely period, the items obtained were conversely few. Thus we know this gift must occur within the timely period. Since it then transformed into being treated like non-timely, it required a karmavācanā, and the meaning is clear once again.
