In the mutual [sharing] within the same order, it first clarifies accepting gifts and making gestures. "And those in the seats" refers to giving right at their original seats. "If there is below" next clarifies taking property left behind by another: this means that a bhikṣu received an invitation at a layperson's house and left items behind after departing; a later-arriving bhikṣu may receive them through a lay donation. Whether accepting and taking them is permissible must therefore be clarified. Knowing that [the owner] will come, one commits a pāyattika, because it is another's property and one ought not to take it; but since it was given by a layperson, it does not constitute a grave offense of theft. Knowing that [the owner] has died, one commits an offense entailing relinquishment, because even if it was given by another, it should be divided by the Saṃgha.
