In the principal determination: silk, hemp, wool, and cotton are designated by their substance; these four kinds comprehend all robes and articles, which corresponds to the thirteenth and eighth chapters among the thirteen chapters. From ancient times, the subheadings were interwoven and mixed together, so that types of articles were not distinguished and heavy and light were conflated. Now they are all divided into fine subheadings, clear as pointing to the palm of one's hand; as for this commentary, it merely touches on them briefly. Moreover, ancient commentaries mostly cited secular books to explain the names and forms of articles; but the cutting and tailoring across ancient and modern dynasties differ, which became excessively tedious and fragmented, so they are all omitted here. Where there is something genuinely difficult to understand, a brief explanation is provided occasionally.
