In the third: coins comprehend eight kinds (gold, silver, copper, brass, iron, wood, bark, and foreign glue); jewels comprehend genuine and counterfeit (gold, silver, pearls, mani gems, coral, mother-of-pearl, agate, and various jades are genuine jewels; brass, copper, iron, tin, fake pearls, and the like are counterfeit jewels). Coins and genuine jewels are all heavy, because they are impure articles. As for counterfeit jewels, if in raw chunks and blocks, they are reckoned as heavy; those entering the count of the hundred-and-one items are all light. The text below refers to the robe rules in the Vinaya where, when rag-pickers collect them, an exception is granted on that account. This proves that money and jewels must not be kept.
